Daniel Copp on Go as a Way Opens

My first short-term mission trip was also the very first mission trip for the congregation I served as pastor at the time. In 1991 and in God’s providence, we spent two weeks with Swanee and Karen Schwanz on a construction project during the early development of the Africa Nazarene University campus near Nairobi, Kenya. In those two weeks together, our group “caught” a greater passion for global mission that continues to influence the congregation today. The contagious passion of Swanee and Karen was a big part of God’s work in shaping our group and our congregation.

In reading Swanee’s memoir, Go as a Way Opens, I am drawn to memories of our time together in Africa and again challenged to full participation in the mission of God.
